Patrick Hylton elected president of the Jamaica Bankers Association |

Patrick Hylton, group managing director of the National Commercial Bank (NCB) Jamaica Limited, was elected president of the Jamaica Bankers Association (JBA) at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Thursday.
Other members of the executive are Wayne Wray, president of First Global Bank Limited, who was elected vice president, and Henry Pratt, general manager of Pan Caribbean Merchant Bank Limited, who was elected treasurer. Pamela Smith, general manager of Myers Fletcher & Gordon Trust & Finance Limited, remains as executive secretary, a position she has held since 2003.
At the AGM, former JBA president, William 'Bill' Clarke, led nominations for the new administration. Clarke congratulated the newly elected team and thanked the Council for their support during his tenure. He continued, "I encourage heads of member institutions to contribute their efforts towards developing a more vibrant association through fulsome participation in the dialogue on issues that constantly confront the association".
New president, Hylton, expressed his appreciation to Clarke for demonstrating a dynamic leadership of the association for the past two years. Hylton thanked members for the confidence placed in him and expressed his anticipation regarding the journey ahead.
He further endorsed the need for members to engage more enthusiastically in matters that are critical to the banking industry.
"I have every confidence in the ability of the current executive body to successfully achieve the objectives of the JBA, with support from members such as the immediate past president, Bill Clarke and past president, Peter Moses," he continued. He highlighted the establishment of a credit bureau for the local industry as one such matter which is high on the agenda."
Profile of Patrick Hylton
Patrick Hylton is an Honours Graduate in Management from the University of Technology (UTech) and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (London).
With over ten years managerial experience in the financial sector, Hylton has a proven track record of performance in the areas of change management, organisational re-structuring, credit & risk administration, process efficiency and human resource development. He was the recipient of the UTech Alumni Award in 2000 for outstanding contribution to the development of the university, and the 1998 Flagrans Bronze awardee for exceptional service in the field of finance from his alma mater, Glenmuir High School.
In 2002, the Order of Distinction, Commander Class, was awarded to Hylton by the prime minister and governor general of Jamaica, for his service in the resuscitation and rehabilitation of Jamaica's financial sector. Hylton was the managing director of Financial Institution Services Limited (FINSAC) for five years, where he had responsibility for the rehabilitation and divestment of intervened financial institutions and the acquired assets.
Hylton is currently group managing director at the National Commercial Bank (NCB).
