THE Jamaica Bankers Association launched its
website on Thursday, November 13, which the association's president,
Raymond Campbell, hoped will become "a one-stop source
of vital information about the financial industry".
The site's address is:
www.jba.org.jm.
Speaking at the site's formal launch at the Terra Nova hotel
in Kingston, Greta Bogues, the CEO of the Private Sector Organisation
of Jamaica, said that its importance was underscored by the
fact that 1.4 million people in the Caribbean use the Internet
-- 100,000 of them Jamaicans.
Among the information that will be found on the site is:
-
a
list of Acts by which the industry is governed, including
draft legislation; e.g. the proposed credit bureau;
-
articles on the industry which have appeared in the
press;
-
sites for individual member institutions;
-
articles on industry-related issues, e.g. the automated
clearing house (ACH) network, the anti-fraud database;
-
government relations, e.g. issues on the exchange
rate stability, interest rate policy;
-
performance of the sector; and
-
JBA meetings and activities, including the Jamaica
Institute Of Bankers (JIOB) training programmes and seminars.
