RAYMOND CAMPBELL RE-ELECTED JBA PRESIDENT

December 11, 2003

Mr. Raymond Campbell, Country Manager of FirstCaribbean International Bank Jamaica Limited, was re-elected as President of the Jamaica Bankers Association (JBA) for the year 2003-2004 at the Annual General Meeting held on Thursday, 11th December.

Mr. Aubyn Hill, Managing Director of National Commercial Bank Jamaica Limited, was elected Vice President.    Mr. Wayne Wray, Treasurer and Ms. Pamela Smith, Secretary, were re-elected to these positions.

During Mr. Campbell’s year in office, he presided over the implementation of the separation of securities trading from deposit taking business within the banking sector, the review & drafting of Capital Adequacy Standards for the securities sector and the launch of the JBA website.   In accepting re-election, Mr. Campbell noted that his objectives for the coming year include continued collaboration with the Bank of Jamaica and the Financial Services Commission on industry regulations which foster a vibrant financial sector.

“The JBA intends to join with the PSOJ in actively lobbying for programmes aimed at reducing the fiscal deficit, curtailing crime and enhancing the educational framework in the country.”  “We recognise the need to reduce the level of public sector debt and the size of the fiscal deficit to enable sustainable growth leading to the improvement in living standards of all Jamaicans,” continued Campbell.

Mr. Campbell thanked the previous executive and the staff of the secretariat for the work done throughout the year.
