CAMPBELL RE-ELECTED JBA PRESIDENT

Mr.
Raymond Campbell, Country Manager of FirstCaribbean International
Bank Jamaica Limited, was re-elected as President of the Jamaica
Bankers Association (JBA) for the year 2003-2004 at the Annual
General Meeting held on Thursday, 11th December. |
Mr.
Aubyn Hill, Managing Director of National Commercial
Bank Jamaica Limited, was elected Vice President.
Mr. Wayne Wray, Treasurer and Ms. Pamela
Smith, Secretary, were re-elected to these positions.
During Mr. Campbell’s year in office, he presided over the
implementation of the separation of securities trading from deposit
taking business within the banking sector, the review & drafting
of Capital Adequacy Standards for the securities sector and the
launch of the JBA website. In accepting re-election,
Mr. Campbell noted that his objectives for the coming year include
continued collaboration with the Bank of Jamaica and the Financial
Services Commission on industry regulations which foster a vibrant
financial sector.
“The JBA intends to join with the PSOJ in actively lobbying
for programmes aimed at reducing the fiscal deficit, curtailing
crime and enhancing the educational framework in the country.”
“We recognise the need to reduce the level of public sector
debt and the size of the fiscal deficit to enable sustainable
growth leading to the improvement in living standards of all Jamaicans,”
continued Campbell.
Mr. Campbell thanked the previous executive and the staff of the
secretariat for the work done throughout the year.
